First contact - H&M and Roberto Cavalli

We have always been big fans of Roberto Cavalli www.robertocavalli.it at H&M. His tailoring, his sensual design, his prints, embroideries and engravings. His Latin rock style. For this year's designer collaboration we were looking for someone to design a party collection. So when Jörgen (Andersson, Marketing manager at H&M) heard Roberto Cavalli might be interested by a friend (who is also a friend of Cavalli's) he immediately got on the phone with the designer himself.

Roberto Cavalli was enthusiastic from the very beginning. He said he really liked the idea, but wanted to talk to his wife Eva and to his daughter who works as a lawyer at his company. They called back shortly after and said YES. He is the perfect choice for this year's collaboration. Not only because he is so GREAT but also because he is totally different from our previous designers; Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Viktor & Rolf. Our aim is to always surprise our customers and keep doing things differently. We think Roberto Cavalli is a surprise. A favourite of Red carpet celebrities and a fashion icon who is famous for his luxurious materials and excellent make at H&M. A challenge, no doubt, but we like challenges here, Jörgen smiles contently when I pass by his office to get the whole story.

Rapper Jay-Z In Negotiations With NJ For 'Rocawear Arena

Jay-Z's popular clothing line Rocawear is in negotiations to become the naming-right pat to the Meadowlands arena.Jay-Z, who owns a portion of the New Jersey Nets, hopes to snag the rights to the arena's name, which is currently held by Continental Airlines.

The rapper faces competition from clothing brands Izod and Southpole, who also seek to have the 26-year-old arena named after their flagship brands.

According to the Bergen County Record, The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA), which is handling bids for the naming rights, said a new name for the famed arena could emerge as early as October 4th.

"We're looking forward to presentations by bidders next week, and then we'll get into the process of evaluation," he said. "I'm optimistic that we'll be able to overachieve the current financial deal that we [had] with Continental."

Continental had been paying over $600,000 a year for the naming rights to the arena. NJSEA officials expect to double that figure with the new naming-rights holder.

The new owner will hold the rights to the arena's name for two years, when the Nets move move to Brooklyn in 2009.

YSL, Dolce & Gabbana, Charvet

A sapphire-on-stone ensemble from YSL provides more flash than many guys can safely handle. If you're man enough, take things a step further with a little silk-on-silk in the form of a Dolce & Gabbana shirt and Charvet scarf. Set it off with seventies-style stubble (i.e., one day's growth—no more, no less).

Rock & Republic jacket, Diesel, Rag & Bone

The jacket reminds us of what Mad Max might wear if he did a stint as lead singer for Gwar. If you're gonna try it, balance it with something relatively restrained, like the trim pants, shirt, and vest seen here.

I Am Legend

I Am Legend
Richard Matheson's novel has already formed the basis for two adaptations (including 1971's The Omega Man, starring Charlton Heston), but this winter's film version is the first to retain the book's title. Too soon to tell whether it'll be worth seeing, but this much we do know: As the lone survivor of a massive bacterial infection, star Will Smith manages to fight off vampires while staying perfectly on-trend.

In theaters Dec. 14

The White Rabbits

The White Rabbits hail from Brooklyn's crumbling industrial Bushwick neighborhood, yet their wardrobe evokes rolling hills more than gritty loft spaces. Their Gatsby-inspired debut album, Fort Nightly, has been generating a steady buzz, and their rollicking live show—which features two drummers—is well worth catching as they embark on a U.S. tour this fall.

Obama’s time to shine...

On a cloudy morning in mid-June, with polls showing Barack Obama competitive with Hillary Clinton in key states and the question hanging over him of whether he can parlay his status as the potential savior of the Democratic Party—and depending on whom you talk to, perhaps even America—into actual votes, Obama is on his way to clinch the endorsement of a South Carolina mortician. Later today, the senator will deliver a widely covered speech in Spartanburg and wow a rally in Greenville, but right now he and his nine-car motorcade are quietly slipping into the rural heart of the state for a private meeting, one not listed on his official schedule, with Anne Parks, a funeral director who also happens to be a state representative—and thus a local power broker worthy of a presidential candidate’s attention—who demanded the senator come pay his respects in return for her support.
