We have always been big fans of Roberto Cavalli www.robertocavalli.it at H&M. His tailoring, his sensual design, his prints, embroideries and engravings. His Latin rock style. For this year's designer collaboration we were looking for someone to design a party collection. So when Jörgen (Andersson, Marketing manager at H&M) heard Roberto Cavalli might be interested by a friend (who is also a friend of Cavalli's) he immediately got on the phone with the designer himself.

Roberto Cavalli was enthusiastic from the very beginning. He said he really liked the idea, but wanted to talk to his wife Eva and to his daughter who works as a lawyer at his company. They called back shortly after and said YES. He is the perfect choice for this year's collaboration. Not only because he is so GREAT but also because he is totally different from our previous designers; Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Viktor & Rolf. Our aim is to always surprise our customers and keep doing things differently. We think Roberto Cavalli is a surprise. A favourite of Red carpet celebrities and a fashion icon who is famous for his luxurious materials and excellent make at H&M. A challenge, no doubt, but we like challenges here, Jörgen smiles contently when I pass by his office to get the whole story.

Rapper Jay-Z In Negotiations With NJ For 'Rocawear Arena

Jay-Z's popular clothing line Rocawear is in negotiations to become the naming-right pat to the Meadowlands arena.Jay-Z, who owns a portion of the New Jersey Nets, hopes to snag the rights to the arena's name, which is currently held by Continental Airlines.

The rapper faces competition from clothing brands Izod and Southpole, who also seek to have the 26-year-old arena named after their flagship brands.

According to the Bergen County Record, The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority (NJSEA), which is handling bids for the naming rights, said a new name for the famed arena could emerge as early as October 4th.

"We're looking forward to presentations by bidders next week, and then we'll get into the process of evaluation," he said. "I'm optimistic that we'll be able to overachieve the current financial deal that we [had] with Continental."

Continental had been paying over $600,000 a year for the naming rights to the arena. NJSEA officials expect to double that figure with the new naming-rights holder.

The new owner will hold the rights to the arena's name for two years, when the Nets move move to Brooklyn in 2009.

April 13, 2007—During a week of press previews, Tom Ford was his usual self—charming, quotable, perfectly stubbled—as he offered a series of intimate tours of his new Madison Avenue menswear store, the first under his own name. As the designer persuasively stated, the shop's appeal will rest on exceptional service and immaculate clothes. Nearly everything (from underwear to fragrances) can be custom-designed, and the staff includes 12 salespeople, two tailors, and four seamstresses (there is even an on-site atelier, which Ford dramatically revealed by pulling back a curtain in one of the dressing rooms).

Sounds great, especially when delivered in Ford's poised Anglo-Texan twang. But we figured the proof is in the pudding, so on the store's opening day we sent an undercover agent—a young investment banker of our acquaintance with a serious Savile Row habit—to see for himself. First impressions? "The shop was definitely sexy and seductive," our banker reports. "But the overall effect was that sort of aggressive, in-your-face cool feeling that made Ford famous, which left me a little cold." In fact, the store is intended to have a residential feel, with many elements (beaver-skin rugs, oversized lamps, the sly Lucio Fontana artwork, seen above behind the model) coming from Ford's own collections. The design is 1930s-inspired, with a wet bar and even butlers and maids who will fetch you lunch during your appointment. "If they were trying to create a clubby atmosphere, I didn't quite feel it," says our source, but quickly adds: "That may be due to it being a little chaotic because it's their first day." And more importantly, the clothes had him rethinking his London shopping sprees. "The quality was impressive. Some beautiful fabrics and very nice cuts," he says. "Bottom line, I made an appointment to go back next week to get fitted for a suit, so I guess I got drawn in." That Tom, he'll get you in the end. May 2, 2007—When Alexandre Plokhov announced he was shuttering Cloak back in December, there was double cause for concern—not only was New York losing one of its more adventurous labels, but what was to become of the lower-price line the designer was set to do for Uniqlo? We're happy to report the latter went ahead according to plan, and turns out to have been well worth the wait. The capsule collection includes jeans, button-downs, and shorts, but our favorite items are Plokhov's cotton polos, which sport smartly truncated collars, button-down breast pockets, and epaulet-evoking detailing on the shoulders (apropos for a military man–turned-designer). While fans of Uniqlo's playful approach to color may be disappointed at the muted palette, the Russian-born designer says his blacks, grays, and whites pay homage to his adopted hometown. "I wanted it to be like a postcard from New York," he says, while also characterizing the line as "Cloak's cousin from Japan." The collaboration marks Plokhov's first foray into mass-produced fashion. (While Cloak had about five staffers, he notes Uniqlo has five "just to choose the buttons.") And happily it won't be his last experience with a deep-pocketed partner. Since March, he's been consulting on Versace menswear. "It's been surprisingly easy and invigorating and liberating at the same time," he says of the Spring 2008 collection, which is set to debut in Milan on June 23. Haven't gotten our seat assignments yet, but at least we know what we'll be wearing.
